We have experienced a lot of weather-related challenges due to high volumes of rainfall this summer. Whether it was trying to get into the field, load from a bin, or manage building flooding we feel it and empathize with the community frustrations! Please keep in mind that this may likely affect seed health too, Fusarium could be our next struggle come harvest. Test early for Fusarium Graminearum when it comes to seed cleaning to give yourself time to manage any disappointing results.
Adding to the list of challenges this summer are pests. We have noticed higher than usual samples with bug infestation. Bugs such as the Rusty Grain Beetle in cereals can cause grain heating, spoilage, and spread fungal spores. The rusty grain beetle is a highly adaptable, fast‑reproducing pest that poses major risks to stored grain worldwide, making early detection and integrated management essential. You can find more information online at www.grainscanada.gc.ca.
On another note, our summer maintenance is complete and we back to full operations. We look forward to booking any seed cleaning required!
Please note that we will be closed on August 3 to celebrate Heritage Day.
